I thought I was the only one.
As an ESL teacher, there is more than a good chance I will run into my students while they are out and about entertaining themselves and I am doing some studious or noble thing….ahem. I have told them, and continue to tell them, not to wave wildly and jump up and down (yes, I teach adults) when they see me because they will be ignored. Most of the teachers at school make sure they have their headphones in/on when they walk out the door–whether they have any music playing is another idea.
Another thing that happens is students seemed shocked when they see me at the store or on the subway. “You’re h ere?!” they often exclaim. Yes, that’s right. I have a life.
