At the conclusion of a whole discussion about preparing their daughter for the state tests in April…
Us: “Our time is just about up, but did you have any questions or comments?”
Parent: “No, everything is good, thank you.” (pauses to collect papers) “Oh! One thing. We are moving to China in 3 weeks.”
“I just survived the first round of parent teacher conferences and the next round doesn’t start until 5:30pm. I deserve this.”
–Me, to myself, justifying this late afternoon snack*
* snack = coffee, wine, and Xanax
“He just had to go number 2.”
— parent, explaining why her 4th grade son had a complete violent meltdown that endangered the safety of all those around him.
….that make my damn day!
Falling squarely into the category of “What is WRONG with people?!”…this:
Last night at parent/teacher conferences, a parent told us that this summer, her family is moving to another state. We were sad to hear this, as we really like this family.
Us: “Well, be sure to keep in touch.”
Mom: “Of course. And if you two ever find yourselves in our area, please visit!”
Us: “We just might!”
Mom: “And call us if you ever need advice down the road…(looks at my co-teacher, who is engaged)…like if you decide to have kids one day (looks at me)…or a pet.”
“Hi! I’d like one of everything you sell. And also a straw.” — me, right now, at the wine store.
