Insulting

I’ll admit, I’m terrible about talking on the phone. I just don’t like to do it. My friends, and my mother in particular, are always giving me a hard time about it, which is fair. I should call them more. I’m sorry!

But still, it’s always so insulting when I do speak to my mom on the phone and she makes a point to ask me if there are any major developments in my and Eric’s relationship that she should know about– clearly implying that if some kind of major event WERE to occur, she wouldn’t even know about it. Which is just insane.

She’d obviously see it on Facebook.

My Generation is Doing Just Fine

There is a guy in my building, about age 60, who loves to make fun of me for always typing/swiping on my phone in the elevator. Every time he sees me, he makes it a point to comment on how iPhones are the downfall of society. Just ran into him again while bringing my laundry down….

Him: “Still on that phone, huh?”

Me: “Yup.”

Him: “Let me ask you something– where do you get your news?”

Me: “Twitter.”

Him: “See this is what’s wrong with young people today. You get your news on TWITTER.”

Me: “I was kidding. Relax.”

Him: “Good. For a minute there, I thought our future was doomed. Getting news from TWITTER?!”

Me: “Yeah, no worries. Just a joke.”

I get it from Facebook.

Too many words on Twitter. Not enough photos.

I prefer my news next to a picture of a bunny nuzzling a raccoon.

Facebook is Making a “Dislike” Button

I kind of hate this idea. I see only negativity coming from it.

I understand, as Zuckerberg states, the desire to make a button people can click in reaction to a sad or emotional post, but how about a “sympathy/empathy” button rather than “dislike”? I don’t know about you, but I think I’d feel even more uncomfortable hitting a “dislike” button on a post about a family member’s illness/death than I would hitting a “like” button (which people currently do, not because they actually “like” it, but to show sympathy….which at this point I think is pretty universally understood).

I mean, don’t get me wrong– I am SUPER excited to start disliking photos of cats.

But I think that’s exactly the problem….
