I’ve been feeling like I’m in a rut and really need to change things up so this morning I put extra ice in my coffee and used whole milk instead of skim.

Nothing Good Happens Before Coffee
I can yell “I PUT THE FUCKING BEANS IN, WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT FROM ME YOU STUPID PIECE OF CRAP?!” at the coffeemaker all day long, but if I didn’t put water in, and it takes me 30 minutes to figure out that that’s what is causing the “malfunction,” well then I suppose it is not the machine’s fault.
And this is why I need a coffee I.V. next to the bed.

Me (whining): “Errrrrric….”
Eric: “What?”
Me (stealing his coffee and drinking it): “I have a headache.”
Eric: <on his phone, likely trying to tune me out>
Me (drinking more of his coffee): “I said I have a headache! Are you listening?”
Eric: <mumbled, what-do-you-want-me-to-do-about-it response>
Me: “BUT YOU TOLD ME THIS IS YOUR PARADISE!!!!!!!”

Before Coffee
Eric accuses me of being less than pleasant in the morning before coffee. This is valid. However, this morning is a perfect example of what I deal with every day.
Eric (after using my blow dryer to warm himself post-shower, setting it down on the top of the toilet, and it crashing to the floor, knocking down my makeup bag): “Hey, you know what?”
Me (frantically getting dressed and trying not to be late, after having squeezed in a 5-mile pre-work training run): “What?”
Eric: “Besides monkeys, humans are the only animals that have butts.”
Me: (no response. For obvious reasons.)
Eric: “Like…think about it.”
Me: (looking at clock, realizing I’m down to the wire)
Eric: “Four legged animals just have their legs, and then a buttHOLE. But no BUTT.”
Me: “Uh huh…”
Eric: “And like–”
Me: “K bye! Love you!” (Leave)
So in context, I think we can all agree I’m doing what I need to do to survive.

It’s particularly hard to find the Starbucks iced Via packets during the winter season (I like to chug them for an energy boost before my morning runs….don’t ask), so I went out of my way to venture into a different Starbucks today, hopeful that they might have some.
Me: “Hi! Do you guys have any iced Via packets in stock?”
Barista: “Ugh, no I’m sorry. We’re all out.”
Me: “Ok. Figured I’d try! The iced Via packs are very hard to find in the winter!”
Barista: “Oh oh oh WAIT– you want the ICED ones?!”
Me (excited): “Yes!!!”
Barista: “I didn’t realize you said iced.”
Me: “Oh, sorry, maybe I forgot to say it– yes, iced!”
Barista: “Yeah we definitely don’t have those.”

Well yeah, of course, I completely agree with the outrage over the new Starbucks Christmas cups. I don’t have to be Christian to understand the controversy and be completely offended. How do you go from touting symbols of Christmas to completely removing them?
I mean, what if Starbucks took the menorahs off the blue Chanukah cups?
Or the kinaras off the Kwanza cups?!
